Description
Golden Cuban Basslet (Gramma dejongi)
The gorgeous and enigmatic golden Cuban basslet (sometimes called the golden fairy basslet) is an undisputed holy grail species among marine fish collectors. Its body is vivid golden yellow. Pelvic fins are bright magenta. A distinct, rich black spot adorns the front of its dorsal fin. It is quite hardy and is similar in care to the closely related (and much more common) royal gramma (G. loreto). Very few of these captive-bred specimens are available and demand is exceptionally high, so get yours while you can!

This species is highly restricted in natural distribution, apparently being found only in coastal Cuba. It is strongly coral reef-associated, spending most of time along steep reef walls at depths ranging between 15 and 90 feet.
BENEFITS OF AQUACULTURED GOLDEN CUBAN BASSLETS
Aquacultured fish offer a huge advantage over wild-caught stock. For example, when cultured and grown out in captivity, they adjust more easily to aquarium life. They are less shy around human observers. Better yet, aquacultured specimens can better tolerate shipping stress. And, by purchasing captive bred fish you support the aquaculture of marine organisms to help make our hobby more sustainable!
