Description
Cerith Snail (Cerithium sp.) Captive Bred
Good for overall aquarium cleaning!
Cerith Snails are hardy little clean-up animals that make a great addition to any tank. These omnivores eats a variety of foods ranging from detritus to hair algae. They prefer to forage at night, so they may not always be seen during the daylight hours. As burrowers, they turn over the substrate well and promote a clean and highly-oxygenated sand bed. They also have the highly desirable habit of clearing algae from the tank panels just below the substrate surface. Due to their smaller size, they can get into tighter areas of the rockwork that other snails cannot. They are also known for their relatively long life spans in captivity!

Cerith Snail Species Information
“Compared to other aquarium snails, ceriths have a large number of positive attributes. They are exceptionally easy to care for. They are quite resilient and long-lived, and are comparatively less sensitive to changing aquarium conditions (e.g. salinity fluctuation). Completely reef-safe, they have not been reported as a threat to any kind of beneficial organism.
Their burrowing behavior helps to stir and aerate aquarium substrates. Best of all, they serve as overall effective aquarium bottom cleaners; not only will they consume particulate matter that is trapped within the sand bed, but they will also grab anything they can on the surface such as hair algae or ever cyanobacteria.…” Read the full article on Cerith Snails in the reef aquarium at the AlgaeBarn Blog.

I recently started a captive-bred-only reef tank. While finding fish and corals has not been too difficult, cleanup crew has been a real challenge. Enter ORA Cerith Snails. I ordered a 5-pack of these (my tank is only 20 gallons), and unfortunately the first set arrived DOA because of a shipping delay. No worries, the Algae Barn team had a second set in the mail the very next day and they arrived perfectly healthy! I did a 15 minute temperature float followed by a 30-minute drip acclimation and within 5 minutes of being in my tank they were already burying themselves in the sand. Couldn’t be happier with these snails and with my experience from Algae Barn!

These snails have been great in my tank. Purchased 10 and they looked exactly like the picture (1 did arrive DOA). They were clean with no algae or other pests and they went right to work after acclimating to my tank parameters. I will be buying more as soon as I can and they are in stock.
