Great Home for Copepods and Amphipods!
Chaeto algae (Chaetomorpha linum) is a hardy green algae commonly used in saltwater refugia & algae scrubbers. It specially suited to algae reactors, where large masses can be kept with minimal packing due to its rigid structure. It grows in long, curvy, sturdy strands that create a framework with ample inner space that provides shelter for a diversity of small, beneficial benthic creatures such as copepods, amphipods, isopods, etc. (it looks much like a green scouring pad!).
A fast grower when provided with bright full-spectrum lighting, this distinctive alga is valued by marine aquarists the world over for its ability to take up copious amounts of nutrients from the water column. When the grow space has nearly filled, you can very easily harvest and discard a few chunks to complete the process of nutrient export. Because of its tough structure, it may be used in the main tank with fewer concerns that it will be consumed by herbivores.
Just like our Clean Sea Lettuce or Pom Pom Macro, Clean Chaeto is an essential part of any healthy refugium set-up! If you’re looking for everything you need to get a new refugium up and running, check out our Ultimate Refugium Starter Pack!

PLEASE NOTE: We go to great lengths to treat, quarantine and remove any unwanted parasites, hitchhikers, and other organisms from our macroalgae. However, we do not guarantee that this item is completely and totally free of anything unwanted. This is because sometimes spores, eggs, etc. can remain viable but not visible, despite our strict quarantine procedure. As a result, we always recommend that you properly quarantine anything new that you are adding to your tank.
I made the mistake of buying chaeto from another company before ordering this. The first company sent chaeto filled with hair algae and bubble algae. After a quick inspection I knew there was no chance of that going in my tank I ordered AlgaeBarns Chaeto. This is a much better product that what I received from the other company. What I received is also extremely dense and not stringy like the other stuff I got. I am really impressed with the quality, density and cleanliness There didnt appear to be anything caught in the algae and as described it is clean.

Arrived clean and green. Very health looking Chaeto. A great addition to my refugium. I love the plastic Algae Barn jars when I get them. They come in handy around the aquarium.

In wonderful shape fastest shipping I’ve ever seen. Very pleased. Thank you algae barn.
Why can’t everyone in the hobby be like AlgaeBarn?

I couldn’t get any growth of LFS cheato in my fuge under 24 hour Par 32 lighting. No growth in 4 weeks. I purchased your tennis ball sized cheato and sea lettuce; in two weeks it has more than doubled in size under the same conditions. I can’t really account for the change in growth, other than perhaps the health of the sample to begin with, but I can say that Algae barn cheato is growing like mad and significantly reduced my nitrates! Thanks!

I purchased softball sized and when I put it in my sump it opened up to the size of 2 softballs. The cheto was 100% clean the only downside is that it was VERY brittle when I put it in my sump. Otherwise amazing product.

The “golf ball” fell totally apart when placed in water and pieces scattered all over the refugium. Very disappointed.

Got here pretty fast but was disappointed that it pretty much fell apart in my refugium and most of it ended up getting sucked into my return and ultimately my filter socks. Was clean and was dense compared to other chaeto I’ve used in the past.

I got some even though I was skeptical, as I have never ordered online, for anything alive. I have to come to find out, I love the stuff. It was a bit brittle, but once settled no problems!!! I would definitely recommend!
