Description
A Functional Cohort of Real Reef Bacteria: Restore Key Anaerobic Microbial Genera with PNS Deep Cycle™
Phototrophic diazotrophs are ecologically integral, and indeed well represented, in natural coral reef microbiomes. This group includes purple nonsulfur bacteria (PNSB), purple sulfur bacteria (PSB) and green sulfur bacteria (GSB) which play critical roles in carbon, nitrogen and sulfur cycling. Many form symbiotic associations with corals. They even act as keystone species within microbial communities, promoting diverse and dynamic ecosystems overall.
Despite their ubiquitous presence on wild reefs, these beneficial bacteria are not often abundant in reef aquaria. PNS Deep Cycle™ contains a functional consortium of anaerobes, including PNSB, PSB and GSB. Originating from a wild coral reef, the indigenous reef microorganisms in this unique product work together in a syntrophic manner to restore the aquarium microbiome to a more naturally healthful state. May be applied to any deep send bed and/or porous biomedia (including dry rock)!
The most significant benefits are as follows:
PNS Deep Cycle™ contains a functionally complete community of marine anaerobes that are prominent in natural coral reef microbiomes, but are nevertheless poorly represented in most reef aquaria. Rather than competing with each other, the species in this consortium exchange metabolic intermediates to facilitate an otherwise energetically unfavorable process, thereby promoting each other’s survival as a coherent unit. In addition to breaking down organic wastes and inhibiting the growth of less desirable anaerobes, the three major components in this unique product perform the following ecological services:
-
Rhodovolum sp. improves water quality through the consumption of dissolved organic matter, whereafter it becomes a nutritious live food due in part to its probiotic properties and relatively high content of fatty acids.
-
Marichromatium purpuratum improves water quality by consuming dissolved organic matter, reducing nitrate and sulfide concentrations and providing probiotic benefits.
-
Prosthecochloris sp. plays important roles in nitrogen and sulfur cycling and often forms a symbiotic relationship with stony corals as an endolithic diazotroph.
Directions and Usage for PNS Deep Cycle™:
Store at room temperature. Treats 400 gallons. Disperse 1.25 mL/gal broadly into an area of moderate flow; may also be injected or soaked into substrate or biomedia for maximal efficacy (scan QR code on bottle to review instructions for special applications); multiple doses can be safely applied and may increase likelihood of permanent colonization. For optimal results, cut protein skimmer, UV sterilizer and ozone generator for one hour following each dose.
Contains wildcrafted marine anaerobes featuring Rhodovolum sp., Marichromatium purpuratum and Prosthecochloris sp. in a proprietary growth medium. All contents formulated for aquarium use only; not for human consumption!
